Safeguarding concerns

Safeguarding matters to us because many of the people we serve are older, disabled, or otherwise more likely to need protecting from harm.

If someone is in immediate danger

Call 999 now. Do this first, before contacting Community Ride Hub in any way. If you are worried about a child or adult but there is no immediate danger, you can also contact the relevant local authority adult or children's social care team, or the police on 101. Community Ride Hub's own process, below, sits alongside those routes — it does not replace them.

What counts as a safeguarding concern

A safeguarding concern is any worry about a child or adult being abused, neglected, harmed, or put at risk of harm — whether that involves a passenger, a member, a member of their family, a driver, a volunteer, or a member of staff. It includes things you have witnessed directly, things someone has told you, and things that simply do not feel right. You do not need to be certain, and you do not need proof, to raise a concern.

  • Physical, emotional, sexual or financial abuse
  • Neglect or self-neglect
  • A passenger seeming frightened of, or unusually controlled by, another person
  • Unexplained injuries, distress, or a sudden change in behaviour
  • Concerns about how a driver, volunteer or staff member is behaving towards a passenger

How to raise a concern with Community Ride Hub

  1. Step 1

Make sure anyone in immediate danger is safe first

Call 999 if needed. That always comes before contacting us.
  2. Step 2

    Tell us

Email hello@communityridehub.org.uk with "Safeguarding" in the subject line, or ask someone to do this for you. Give as much detail as you safely can: what you are concerned about, who is involved, and when it happened or was noticed.
  3. Step 3

It goes to our safeguarding lead

Safeguarding concerns are routed to Community Ride Hub's named safeguarding lead rather than a general inbox, in line with our Safeguarding Policy (CCT-GOV-010).
  4. Step 4

    We act on it

We take every concern seriously. Depending on what is reported, that may include contacting statutory services ourselves, reviewing what happened, and taking action regarding any driver, volunteer or staff member involved.

What we cannot yet publish

Named contact details

Our Safeguarding Policy names an individual safeguarding lead internally. We have not yet published a direct telephone number or named contact publicly on this website — see contact details for the safeguarding lead. Until a named public contact is published, email hello@communityridehub.org.uk with the subject line “Safeguarding” is the reliable route and will reach the right person.

Safeguarding is not the same as a complaint

If you are unhappy with the standard of service — a late journey, a rude interaction, a policy you disagree with — that is a complaint, and it belongs on our compliments, complaints and concerns page. If you are worried about someone's safety or wellbeing, it belongs here. If you are not sure which, tell us anyway and say so — we would rather redirect a complaint than miss a safeguarding concern.
